Don’t miss e.g. the Annual ‘Summer Loaf Festival’ when you are a bread lover.
This is said to be the largest public artisan bread baking festival in the nation, organized by Portland Farmers Market and The Bread Bakers Guild of America.

The Northeast of the United States, especially along the coast, is famous for their bakeries. The story is that it started around 1970 in Berkeley, CA, when some bakers remembered the old recipes the immigration generation brought to the new world. The began to bake bread like the European recipes told them and today they don’t have to spare the comparison with European bread.
Be there early, bread friends gather on the market already at 8 o’clock in the morning. There’s much you have to try and taste – no pre-breakfast necessary.

There’s certainly much more to discover, the market offers fresh produce, meat, dairy products, and of course fresh seafood.
Don’t miss some of the special events during the year:

  • Berry Festival end of June
  • Summer Loaf Festival early August
  • Tomato Festival early September
  • The Great Pumpkin Event end of October before Halloween
