1958 the first German-American Steuben Parade took place. Named after General Frederick Wilhelm von Steuben, a major player in the American Independence War.

Hundreds of German-American organizations are represented. The goal of the parade is to remind the American public in general, and our civilian leaders in particular, of the role that German immigrants and their descendants played in the development of the United States of America. The parade is designed to give those with Germanic heritage a deep-rooted sense of pride in origin and achievement.

Statistics tell that German-Americans are the largest ethnic group in the USA.

The Parade is sponsored by the German-American Committee of Greater New York, Inc. and its organization is the sole responsibility of the German-American Steuben Parade Committee.
