NYC Marathon

The New York Marathon is one of the most popular marathons in the world and is the largest in the world.

In 2019, there were 53,627 runners out of 54,205 participants who made it over the finish line: 22,741 were women and 30,886 were men. A total of about 141 countries are represented.

The 2020 marathon marks the 50th anniversary of the NYC Marathon.

Due to the high demand, the rules of participation have been changed since the race in 2000. For the first time, the starting places were raffled off and no more action was taken according to the rule: whoever comes first is lucky.

Non-U.S. citizens can either participate in the lottery or purchase a ‘package’ through a tour operator, i.e. such packages include travel, hotel and race number.

For the 2020 race there were 79,617 applications in the first 50 hours of the special lottery for 50 guaranteed starting places!

The official lottery runs from January 30 to February 13, 2020. The draw is on February 26.
