“Longmont” combines the words “Long” and “mont”. The former stems from the mountaineer Stephen H. Long who is the eponym of a prominent mountain named Longs Peak (14,259. ft / 4,346 m). The latter, “mont”, is the French word for mountain.
Longmont is quickly developing into a diverse and modern city and is stepping out of the shadow of its well-known neighbor city ‘Boulder’ which is a 15-30 min drive away.
