Within the city lie the sources to good health -- As an industrial metropolis of world reputation, capital of the high-tech state of Baden-Württemberg and pulsating center of a major European economic region, Stuttgart draws its power from a world-famous export industry. Another source for the city`s sound self-confidence is a continually flowing natural treasure, allowing the capital city to enjoy the advantages and beneficial qualities of a health resort.
This natural spring bubbles in the city`s largest and oldest district of Bad Cannstatt, as well as, in the adjacent quarter Berg. Nineteen individual springs produce more than 22 million litres of healthy mineral water daily. This is composed of dissolved mineral salts and other valuable substances, which in compressed form, could fill three train cars – daily! Within the European continent, Budapest is the only region that supplies more mineral water. The City of Stuttgart benefits from this enormous natural resource in the best possible way. Three mineral indoor spas including two mineral outdoor spas, are offered as well as, three cure centres and 20 public mineral water fountains.
In cooperation with doctors and health insurance funds, this ambulatory treatment offers a full healing programme for people between their homes and places of work. It is based on the curative effect of the Stuttgart mineral water and is supplemented by a wide range of additional treatments, chosen according to the latest medical findings.
Renowned scientists have become spiritual fathers of this new cure model, discovering the "cure form of the future" in an industrial society. The advantages are obvious: The recipient of the treatment does not have to leave home nor the place of work, providing that there are favorable circumstances.
Two thousand years ago, the Romans were progressively aware of the mineral springs` curative effect, for they established a fortress, whereupon the foundation for the former beloved spa of Cannstatt was built. This spa came to be a meeting place for emperors and kings, the place to flaunt wealth and grandly exude elegance. However, at the end of the 19th century, the Industrial Revolution soon caused this splendid era to seep away. Nevertheless this spa tradition has continued, specifically in two municipal health spas, "Leuze" and "Mineral-Bad Cannstatt", as well as, through the mineral bath "Bad Berg", which has been family-owned for one hundred years.
