Shopping is best in downtown. The city offers a variety of specialty shops and souvenier shops.
If your country of residence is outside the EU, you can claim back the value-added tax (VAT) paid
on your purchases made while shopping in Germany. In Germany the sales tax (VAT) rate is 19 per cent, and 7 per cent for food and books.
Altogether, about 40.000 shops in Germany participate in the Global Refund's Tax Free Shopping service.
Ask for a tax free cheque in any of these shops.
