The Graphic Art Collection of the City of Nuremberg, established in 1971, comprises about 80,000 works, mainly drawings and prints. It is the most comprehensive collection of illustrations documenting Nuremberg's history and represents a meaningful supplement to the written documents kept in the City Archives.
The building designed by architect, Volker Staab, and opened in 2000 is located in the Old Town close to Nuremberg Main Train Station, fascinating visitors with its elegant clarity and transparent structure. The 100 m curved glass façade permits interesting views of the museum's interior and, particularly at night, provides an extraordinary backdrop to events on Klarissenplatz. With its collections of international art and of design, the museum is unique in showing both contemporary free art and applied art under one roof.
