Travel1000Places.comHamburg has a whole series of atmospheric flea and antique markets. The flea market in the heart of the city, for example, attracts bargain hunters in their droves from April to October. Traders set up their stalls every Saturday between 9am and 5pm right next to the famous hot-air balloon and Deichtorhallen exhibition hall.
There is also a flea market around the historical fountain on Hansaplatz square in the heart of the multicultural St. Georg quarter: the last market of the year will be held approx. early October.
The ‛Flohschanze‘ market is the place for kitsch items, odds and ends, and curiosities: you can haggle to your heart‘s content every Saturday in the Alte Rinderschlachthalle (old cattle abattoir) in the Schanzenviertel quarter from 8am to 4pm.
You‘ll find a mix of antiques, high-quality bric-à-brac and arts and crafts on offer at the antiques fair in the converted Kampnagel factory. The market is held early December from 10am to 5pm.
In winter, the seasonal outdoor flea markets are replaced by the winter flea market in the Hamburg exhibition halls: on four dates from November to February, around 500 traders travel here from all over Germany and abroad to sell their goods in two or three halls at the Hamburg Exhibition Grounds. Around 8,000 visitors come to haggle over bargains or find that much-desired collector‘s item (Admission costs ca. €3.50).
