KIEL.SAILING CITY – Kiel is the capital of Schleswig-Holstein and calls itself the Sailing City.

Location map: Kiel, Germany

Kiel is the capital of the German state of Schleswig-Holstein which is the northern-most state of Germany.

Thress expressions characterizing the city? City, beach, ships.
In the heart of Kiel, enormous Scandinavian ferries, cruise ships from all over the world, roofed shopping centres, Baltic Sea beaches and a vivid cultural scene merge together as one.

Situated around Kiel’s fjord, Schleswig-Holstein’s capital is inextricably linked to the water like no other Baltic Sea metropolis: While imposing cruise ships, luxurious yachts and traditional windjammer provide for a maritime atmosphere in the inner fjord, roofed shopping centers, individual boutiques, cosy cafés and a wide-range of cultural offers give you a wealth of choice on your visit to Kiel.

Kiel is a maritime experience and about ‘Sailing, Sailing, Sailing’.
Kiel Firth is one of the most beautiful coastal sailing areas worldwide. Every year, our city attracts national and international top stars. The capital of Schleswig-Holstein has proven its status at many occasions, such as Olympic sailing contests, World and European Championships, the German Sailing Grand Prix or the “Extreme 40 Series”.

Kiel Week is not only a sailing event but up to 1000 other events make it the biggest summer festival in the north of Europe.
Famous locations are the International Market offering specialties from many different countries, the Spiellinie providing Germany’s biggest open-air cultural offering for children, a parade of windjammer ships and the closing day fireworks at Kiel’s fjord. Visitors get the chance to experience Kiel Week’s fascinating atmosphere live from the first row by accompanying a regatta, for example, on a sailing boat a motor ship or a steamboat. Children can gain their first sailing experience at Camp 24/sieben. The team of “KIEL.SAILING CITY” offers an exciting water program for children sailing optimists, jolly boats, yachts, catamarans, motor boats, sailing cutters and traditional ships.
The sailing camp invites you to its “open-camp” events at the weekends during the summer holidays to try out sailing and other activities free of charge.

Kiel means also recreation and beach life – If you are interested in enjoying the maritime way of life in a more relaxed fashion you can do this at one of the numerous beaches along Kiel’s fjord. It’s easy to forget about everyday life thanks to the fine sand, the long coastal promenades and the magnificent landscape. This can be enjoyed by both young and old alike.
